Sanchez Reconstruction
This partial reconstruction of The Road to Calvary by Juan and Diego Sanchez (Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge) leaves areas unfinished to demonstrate the preparation and painting process, from sweet chestnut panel, through canvas and gesso preparation to gilding, silvering and painting using pigments hand-ground in linseed oil.
The reconstruction was exhibited as part of both Making Colour at the National Gallery, London, in 2014 and Sharpening Perceptions, at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, in 2020. It is in the permanent collection of the Hamilton Kerr Institute, Cambridge University.
