While out hunting, a Roman soldier sees a stag with a crucifix between its antlers. It speaks to him in the voice of Christ and he converts to Christianity.

For me, this legend is about a world changing from one dominated by the Roman religion, where divinity is in every natural phenomenon and man is subject to vagaries of nature, to one in which nature is subject to man - an
                                                                                              anthropomorphic God, Christ, imposes himself on a stag, the symbol of nature.
