The Fall

Egg tempera and gold leaf on oak

25cm x 25cm x 1cm

The figure in this painting is sculpted in low relief in the gesso ground so that the taut muscles and sinews stand proud of the surface. The inspiration for this piece came from a visit to the Musée d'Orsay in Paris as a child, where I was particularly struck by Rodin's sculpture, 'The Gates of Hell'.
